The only thing to watch is prolonged heavy rain, which can flatten the larger leaves or cause water to pool in the crowns — but in a warm FNQ climate, they generally bounce back beautifully. We have sourced a brilliant Hoya supplier in own own back yard in Far North Queensland! Hoyas are living jewellery — each one a sculptural little masterpiece with its own personality, rhythm, and charm. From thick, veined leaves that look carved from stone to delicate trailing vines that soften any space, they’re plants that reward patience with beauty. They root easily, adapt well to indoor life, and surprise collectors with blooms that look almost unreal. Whether it’s a chunky collector rarity or a soft‑leafed classic, every Hoya carries that quiet, elegant magic that makes people fall in love and come back for more.

Hoyas are easy to grow and generally fast growing in ideal conditions, thriving in bright, indirect light, warm temperatures, and a well‑aerated growing environment. They're generally very easy to look after—but there’s one little thing to watch out for: overwatering . These beauties don’t like soggy feet, and too much water can lead to root rot if you're not careful.

See below for some care tips and tricks to rescue them should such a dilemma occur:

�� Aglaonema Care Tips– Root Rot Prevention & Rescue

The BIGGEST issue with Aglaonemas is overwatering , which can cause root rot and sadly lead to the plant’s decline. But don’t panic—if you catch it early, she can bounce back beautifully.

�� For Soil-Grown Plants:

If leaves start yellowing or the base smells musty, gently remove the plant from its pot and check the roots.
Trim away any mushy or discoloured roots using sterilised scissors.
Optional: Soak remaining healthy roots in a solution of 1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide to 2 parts water for 5–10 minutes. This cleanses and re-oxygenates the roots.
Let roots air-dry completely before repotting into fresh, well-draining soil (something chunky like coir and vermiculite is perfect).
Dust cut ends with cinnamon as a natural antifungal.
Hold off watering for at least a week , and keep her somewhere warm and bright—but out of direct sun.

�� For Water-Grown Plants:

Change the water every 7–10 days , and rinse the roots to remove any biofilm.
Use filtered or rainwater if possible.
Add a splash of hydrogen peroxide (about 1 tsp per litre) every few changes to oxygenate the water and deter bacteria.
You can also add a diluted hydroponic nutrient solution (follow label directions) to support healthy growth and vibrant foliage.
Keep the setup clean and well-lit , but avoid direct sun.

Posting plants to Thursday Island 💚 The new Community Gardens are open! Blog #30

We were contacted by a beautiful lady from TI advising of their recently refurbished community gardens and looking for edible ginger and other plants to grow in the gardens.

There was a recent Garden Reopening ceremony and garden plot owners have been provided with keys to their plots which have been re-topped with garden mix and mulch, with water kindly supplied by Torres Regional Council.

We were very happy to oblige by sending extras as our contribution towards their gardens.

Our customer also discovered we stock Caladiums and was very happy to receive her order this week.

Packed fresh this morning to be lodged with Australia Post and on their way!

Joy won #69 in the recent auctions and approached us to see if we had some Aglaonemas to add to her order.

We love it when our customers contact us direct.

As it turned out we were able to oblige and send a beautiful selection of Aglaonemas to her. They weren't listed in the store, but she took the initiative to make contact to see what else we had available to make a personal combined postage parcel just for her.

Rare Anthurium Scherzerianum var Rothschildianum Pig Tail. Beautiful red/orange speckles on white background. Flowering size approximately four-five years old. Currently in flower as shown in pics.
